FIDF Names Weil as New National Director and CEO

Atlanta, Georgia resident and area activist Renee Evans is heavily involved with the city's Jewish community. In the past, Renee Evans has been invited to participate in a number of speaking engagements with the local Friends of Israel Federation (FIDF), a non-military, non-political organization that advocates for Israel Defense Fund soldiers.

Steven Weil was appointed the FIDF's new national director and CEO in September 2020. Prior to this appointment, the FIDF had expanded considerably under the direction of Major General Klifi-Amir, opening new chapters in the US, raising in excess of $570 million in the years spanning 2015 and 2019, and assisting 114 percent more soldiers than it had in previous years.

However, FIDF leaders decided to change a few things in the organization’s structure, focusing on expanding the scope of management and fundraising opportunities. They chose a US-based CEO in an effort to lengthen the person’s tenure and to deepen the FIDF’s roots in the local community with the hopes of strengthening fundraising efforts.

Weil comes to the position with a wide breadth of experience. An ordained Rabbi, he is credited with expanding his congregation in Beverly Hills, California, and subsequently landing a position with Orthodox Union where he stayed for 11 years. Here, he was at the helm of advancing the institution and its community engagement efforts.

The general consensus from these panelists included, kids and teens who find themselves victimized by cyber bullies should not attempt to retaliate or respond to repeated and cruel attacks. Instead, they are advised to retain as much evidence as possible and show it to someone who can help them deal with the situation. Reaching out for help should always be an option and friends, relatives, or trusted adults can be useful allies in curbing cyberbullying attacks.

Moreover, social media and communication channels often offer ways to deal with unwanted communications. Blocking the person or reporting attacks to moderators is useful and can solve the problem at the source. Kids should also try to participate actively in stopping bullies. If they witness bullying, reporting the incidence and taking action are crucial steps to eliminating the problem
